“Dama Ko, Lahi Ko” (@damakolahiko) began in a series of conversations around Filipino identity, sparked by the waves of Asian culture sweeping global trends. Those conversations became an idea: what if Filipinos could harness culture and creativity to become part of this global wave?

Type63 in partnership with Dama Ko Lahi Ko posted the DKLK Challenge inviting type and lettering enthusiasts to express their interpretation of Filipino type by drawing the letters “DKLK” to encourage others to participate in celebrating the country’s Day of Independence.

Using type, colors, and lighting, I tried to capture the essence of some of my fondest memories of the Philippines and the country’s incredibly scenic views from trips I would go on as a kid.
